As a business that supplies tools and accessories catering to those in the the construction, electrical, welding, carpentry, woodworking, plumbing and HVAC, the survival of these industries is obviously very important to us. And we know the trades are very important in general.
We rely on electricians, plumbers and HVAC technicians so much in our daily lives, and would not be able to function without them!
A few years ago, Mike Rowe (you may know him from the TV show “Dirty Jobs”) testified before the U.S. Senate about the country’s widening skills gap. He still spends a great deal of his time speaking about this widening skills gap and the persistent belief that getting a four-year degree is the best path for most people.
So we partnered with Dewalt, SkillsUSA and Atlantic Technical College to design kits specific to these trades, with the purpose of making the tools and accessories more affordable to students and graduates (during their first year in the field), which we hope will help them succeed in their chosen carriers.
Last month I visited the college to talk to the graduating class of 2016 about the kits and how as a local, family-owned-and-operated business, we can help them succeed.
(In the photo above, I’m pictured (on the left) with our local Dewalt representatives and many of the students who graduated from Atlantic Technical College this year. Dewalt donated all of these tools to the school for use in the classrooms.)
It was great to see how responsive everyone was, and it seemed like all of the students were excited to get out and start working.
We wish them the best in their careers and hope we can help them out with all of their tool needs in the future!
