A few weeks ago, I posted about the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) amendments to the existing standards for occupational exposure to respirable crystalline silica (found in asphalt, brick, cement, concrete, drywall, grout, mortar, stone, sand and tile, just to name a few). Employers covered by the construction standard have until June 23, 2017 to comply with most of these new requirements. (The rule will become enforceable June 23, 2018 for the maritime and general industries.)

In the post I highlighted Dewalt’s Perform and Protect Line.

I plan on creating several posts on this topic…one for each manufacturer who’s products will meet the new rules. And today, I’m going to talk about Milwaukee‘s Dust Extraction Systems for Drilling.

“We recognize that this is a tremendous opportunity for Milwaukee Tool and are excited to be able to offer a solution to those affected by this new regulation.  Our line of power tool accessories equipped with HEPA filtered vacuum systems are considered some of the best in the industry.”

– Taylor Hoppe, Milwaukee Tool Assistant Product Manager

The 2715-DEfirst item Milwaukee has for drilling applications is the 2712-DE M18 FUEL 1″ Dedicated Dust Extractor. This was designed to attach to the 2712-22 M18 FUEL 1″ SDS Plus Rotary Hammer. And for their 2715-22 M18 1-1/8″ SDS Plus Rotary Hammer, they’ve come out with the 2715-DE M18 FUEL 1-1/8″ Dedicated Dust Extractor. (Same idea, just different sizes.)

These attachments were designed to fit in most confined work spaces, and have an adjustable depth stop and ruler to easily and precisely adjust for accurate hole depths. And they have a high capacity dust box which allows the user to work longer without emptying dust box as often.

The next is the 2306-20 M12 HAMMERVAC Universal Dust Extractor. 2712-22DE_A2According to Milwaukee, this is the industry’s ONLY universal dust extractor. It’s compatible with most major power tool brands of SDS Plus rotary hammers and AC/DC hammer drills, and is compatible with the entire M12 line.

49-90-2306Use this with the 49-90-2306 M12 HAMMERVAC HEPA Certified Filters for high quality debris filtration…the user is able to replace these filters independently of the dust box to cost-effectively maintain suction efficiency.

Lastly, Milwaukee has their 5261-DE HAMMERVAC Vacuum Assisted Dust 5261-DE_2Extractor. Its handle system allows quick set up and is compatible with with major brands of SDS Plus rotary hammers and AC/DC hammer drills, so users can drill safely into concrete and masonry without having to purchase a new drill.

It features a universal vacuum attachment system that is compatible with standard hose sizes of wet/dry vacuums. This allows a standard wet/dry vacuum to the provide power and suction needed to remove dust as holes are drilled.

Let us know if you have any questions. And next week I’ll post about Milwaukee’s Dust Extraction Systems for Grinding, so be sure to check back! And don’t forget to use the approved respirator(s) for your applications!

2 Replies to “OSHA’s 2017 Silica Dust Rule – Milwaukee Part 1

  1. I don’t think the Milwaukee systems will meet OSHA compliancy because the table within the Silica ruling calls for a dust collector with “a filter-cleaning mechanism”
There are some great vacuums out there that meet that requirement, though costly, will have that mechanism built into the vac. I don’t think there is a cordless option on a rotary hammer that does…
